  • Victor Cox announced a free block party for school-aged children with hair cuts — braids, school supplies, food, music and bounce houses. The event will offer families a fun, safe way to kick off the school year.  Quicksie 98.3

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday afternoon at 3:00, 77-year-old Laura Gilpin crossed the center line between Elizabethtown and Bardstown near the intersection of Boston Road and Bennetts Lane and collided with a Dodge Avenger driven by 26-year-old Jasmine Simpson—Gilpin was pronounced dead at the hospital while Simpson and a juvenile passenger were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.  K105

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Radcliff restaurants saw a drop in sales after Wilson Gate closed for two weeks, restricting access to Fort Knox — local operators say the loss of traffic has hurt their business.  The News-Enterprise

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Hardin County Public Library is offering its Summer Reading Program through July 26 to help kids, teens and adults keep reading and win weekly art set prizes and a grand prize drawing. Families may visit the library at 100 Jim Owen Drive in Elizabethtown to pick up reading logs and join the 'Color Our World' themed events.  Quicksie 98.3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky will offer 15-year-olds a chance to obtain driving permits on August 2 with over 1,300 test appointments available at 12 locations statewide, including one in Elizabethtown, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and applicants must bring required documents (birth certificate, Social Security proof, and school compliance verification) to complete the test.  K105
  • Kentucky's attorney general filed a lawsuit on Thursday in Woodford County Circuit Court against Temu, a Chinese online shopping app that is accused of giving the Chinese government access to American user data and stealing intellectual property from U.S. companies—actions that may lead to job losses and hardships for iconic Kentucky brands.  WLKY
  • Congress passed a $9 billion rescission package Thursday night that cut $1.1 billion from CPB funding — putting at least nine Kentucky public media stations, including some rural ones, at risk of losing up to 30% of their budgets. Louisville Public Media said its operating budget will lose nearly $400,000 and that further programming cuts may follow.  WKYU-FM

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Eckert’s Orchard in Versailles is in peak blackberry-picking season with 3.5 acres of thornless, nearly seedless berries ready for gathering. Farm manager Megan Fields explained the rotating trellis method called city picking allows you to fill a basket at one spot — the orchard is open daily except Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  WLKY
