COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Springhaven Inc. assistant director Shonna Sheckles said their one-year partnership with FOHCAS has helped domestic violence survivors keep their pets safe—FOHCAS boards cats and dogs, updates their vaccinations, and allows pet visitations while survivors stay at the shelter. In 2024, 13 survivors with a total of 24 pets used the program, which comes at no financial cost to them.  Quicksie 98.3

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Multiple houses in Prospect are at risk from a mudslide that eroded more than 10 feet of hillside into Harrods Creek—crews are assessing the damage and two homes have been deemed uninhabitable as emergency services plan next steps.  WLKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elizabethtown Community and Technical College is hosting Dual Credit Week from Monday through Friday this week—letting high school students take college courses at a lower cost. Last fall, over 2,228 students saved more than $1 million in tuition by earning over 12,000 credit hours.  K105

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentuckians get extra time to file their taxes under a FEMA disaster declaration after severe weather began on Feb 14. While most Americans have until today to file, those in Kentucky have until November 3 to file returns and make payments without penalty, and the IRS is waiving fees for tax copy requests.  WLKY
  • Last week, the city released its 2024 Annual Report showing a budget of just over $119.7 million that funded a rise in staff to 375, nearly 21,000 feet of new natural gas pipelines, more than 12 miles of paved streets, and a 19% boost in wastewater capacity. The report also detailed the approval of 458 building permits, over $211 million in construction activity, and projects for 2025 including an extension of Commerce Drive & renovations at the police department.  Quicksie 98.3
