Springhaven Inc. assistant director Shonna Sheckles said their one-year partnership with FOHCAS has helped domestic violence survivors keep their pets safe—FOHCAS boards cats and dogs, updates their vaccinations, and allows pet visitations while survivors stay at the shelter.

In 2024, 13 survivors with a total of 24 pets used the program, which comes at no financial cost to them.

Last week, the city released its 2024 Annual Report showing a budget of just over $119.7 million that funded a rise in staff to 375, nearly 21,000 feet of new natural gas pipelines, more than 12 miles of paved streets, and a 19% boost in wastewater capacity.

The report also detailed the approval of 458 building permits, over $211 million in construction activity, and projects for 2025 including an extension of Commerce Drive & renovations at the police department.
