COMMUNITY NEWS

  • American Legion Hardin Post 113 will host a Veterans Helping Veterans event for active duty military and veterans in need of benefits, service dog information and counseling. The event will take place on November 5 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 1251 Ring Road—local groups will offer info sessions and workshops for civilian transition support.  Quicksie 98.3
  • The Elizabethtown Junior Woman’s Club will host a Holiday Market Saturday—donating proceeds to four nonprofit organizations aiming to help the community.  The News-Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Beshear declared a state of emergency and used $5 million from the state's reserves to help food banks as SNAP delays left many families hungry. He also set aside over $12 million for TANF aid while Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland (FAKH) in Elizabethtown began planning support for more than 200 partner agencies.  WKYU-FM
  • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said that KY 1526 on Bells Mill Road will close at the Floyds Fork bridge from November 17 until May 14 for work by Hall Contracting at a cost of $2.5 million—detours are set up for westbound and eastbound traffic—and drivers should plan ahead. Stovall Road in Hardin County will close for about 30 days starting November 5, and milling and paving will begin Monday on U.S. 31W in Muldraugh, so motorists must follow posted signs.  Quicksie 98.3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hosparus Health Central Kentucky invites local residents to volunteer and help neighbors who are very sick—an act of kindness during the season of gratitude—and hopes to build strong community support.  The News-Enterprise
  • Radcliff Deputy Fire Marshal Tommy Crane advises plugging space heaters directly into a wall and keeping them at least three feet away from flammable items — measures meant to reduce fire hazards as the temperature drops — and recommends using models with tip-over protection for homes with children or pets. He also says furnaces and fireplaces should be serviced regularly and filters changed often to prevent dust buildup.  Quicksie 98.3
