  • A local church will bring back Ladies Day Out on Saturday for early holiday shopping to ease Christmas stress—shoppers will support a good cause during the event.  The News-Enterprise
  • Hardin County Animal Shelter in Elizabethtown is showcasing Hank, a 6-year-old tri-color coonhound, and AJ, an 8-month-old tan and white hound mix, both weighing 50 pounds and looking for Furever homes.   • Caufield's + Wednesday's Child organized an event where foster children picked out Halloween costumes and accessories with help from staff, foster parents, and an anonymous donor.   • Local community food banks and kitchens are preparing for more people in need as federal SNAP benefits are expected to lapse amid a 31-day government shutdown — they are coordinating extra resources to ensure help reaches those affected.  The News-Enterprise
  • Kentucky State Police and Hoover Majors Insurance will host a free Holiday Safety Check event on November 7 from noon to 4 p.m. at Hoover Majors Insurance at 209 West White Oak Street—offering car seat inspections, kids' activities, and free food and drinks to help families ensure baby safety during holiday travel.  K105

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A local couple plans to restore the old Howevalley Elementary School building and keep its familiar look—trees still line the front as if waiting for buses. The project will preserve the building's unique character for future community use.  The News-Enterprise
  • Elizabethtown Community and Technical College was named as one of 200 schools eligible for the $1 million Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, a recognition based on strong student outcomes and improved retention and transfer rates. The review process will last for 20 months + culminate in spring when the Aspen Prize winner is announced.  K105

  • Four police officers and one sheriff’s deputy were recognized by local community members for their selfless acts of kindness and bravery in the line of duty. The honor confirmed strong community support for the law enforcement team—emphasizing their commitment to serving the public.  The News-Enterprise

HEALTH NEWS

  • As fall continues, Radcliff Deputy Fire Marshal Tommy Crane says residents should opt for candle warmers (which safely release scents) and LED lighting on jack-o'-lanterns to reduce fire hazards. He advises keeping open-flame candles on stable surfaces away from drapes and trimming jar candle wicks to lessen the risk of fire.  Quicksie 98.3
  • Norton Healthcare CEO Russell Cox says the company plans a new pediatric campus on 152 acres in Jeffersontown to expand care for children and support family services. The company will hold a listening session on November 6 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at G.C. Burkhead Elementary School in Elizabethtown — inviting community feedback on the proposed facility.  Quicksie 98.3
