Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 30th of October.
Good morning, Elizabethtown.
🏘️ Community
For 200 years, the Brown-Pusey House has served as a place where locals gather and share its rich history.
The historic home remains a key landmark for community events.
Girls United, a nonprofit that empowers young women and girls in our community, will host a relaunch fundraiser — marking a new chapter for the group.
🏛️ Government
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is urging Kentuckians to plan safe rides home for Halloween after last year’s 84 alcohol-involved collisions resulted in two deaths and 43 injuries — officials advise using public transport or a designated sober driver to prevent buzzed driving.
Hardin County will launch its ninth full-time ambulance unit at the West Fardin Fire and Rescue station in White Mills.
The county approved a lease agreement Tuesday night — and the unit is expected to be fully operational by mid-November.
A new regulation from Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Resources bans the use of drones and other aircraft to hunt, fish, or harass wildlife after the Kentucky Interim Joint Committee adjourned on October 16; only department employees, authorized landowners for wildlife damage control, and commercial fishers for invasive carp management may use them. This rule provides a clear framework for investigating and enforcing any violations.
Due to the government shutdown and a grant expiration on October 31, the Central Kentucky Community Action Council is using a line of credit from People’s Bank of Lebanon to keep Head Start and Early Head Start programs running for 400 children and nearly 150 staff until November 21 — a temporary measure while federal funds remain uncertain.
📰 Real Estate
Developers have begun showing interest in a new hotel project in the south end, and one developer said he wants to be the first to launch this development—more plans will be shared as additional interest builds.
