  • Kentucky State Police Post Four is asking local community members to donate for its annual Shop with a Trooper program that gives children a chance to celebrate Christmas—troopers want to raise $250 to $300 per child and plan a special meal after helping 133 kids shop last year.  Quicksie 98.3
  • This week, Hardin County Animal Shelter hosts potential adopters to meet Furby, a one-year-old tri-color beagle/baset mix weighing 38 pounds, and Casper, a three-month-old tiger-striped pet with green eyes—marking the 8th anniversary of Furever Friends. The shelter is open Monday through Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at 220 Peterson Drive.  Quicksie 98.3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A survey finds that five in six Kentucky parents cannot enroll their children in afterschool programs because they are too expensive or unavailable, leaving over 289,000 kids without access. Nearly 90% of parents support public funding and the Kentucky Out-of-School Alliance will join Lights On Afterschool today — urging leaders to expand these programs.  K105

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in Elizabethtown are reminded to stop for school buses as required by law during National School Bus Safety Week, which runs through October 24; authorities emphasize that violating the rule can lead to fines and jail time + the week also honors those who keep kids safe on their daily rides.  Quicksie 98.3
  • Attorney General Russell Coleman and Kentucky’s largest electric utilities reached a proposed settlement that cuts planned rate increases by about half for electric customers. The new rates will be locked in until at least August 2028—pending approval from state regulators.  WKYU-FM
  • White Mills residents have raised concerns that the county’s ambulance service has not delivered on a promised deal with county government—residents say the arrangement feels like a 'carrot at the end of a stick' and expect officials to review the issue soon.  The News-Enterprise

  • A new initiative in Hardin County has been launched to end period poverty for women and girls—officials say it will ensure access to essential menstrual products for those in need.  The News-Enterprise
