COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Court Appointed Special Advocate officials with CASA of the Heartland are calling for local volunteers who are dedicated to supporting children — they want caring adults to step forward for advocacy work.  The News-Enterprise

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elizabethtown Community and Technical College is accepting public nominations for the 2026 Hall of Distinguished Alumni and Lifetime Achievement Award programs—this call seeks former students, faculty and community partners with outstanding achievements. Nominations must be submitted by December 12 and will be reviewed by college representatives before the winners are celebrated at a Profiles of Excellence ceremony in Spring.  K105
  • Central Hardin advanced to the KMEA State Marching Band contest semi-finals—its strong performance in earlier rounds earned a spot—and will soon compete in the final rounds as its season nears its end.  The News-Enterprise

FINANCE NEWS

  • LG&E and KU customers may see their bills rise if the Public Service Commission approves the rate increase; KU electric bills will go up by $9 while LG&E customers face a $5 increase for electric service and an $8 rise for gas. The new rates, set to take effect Jan. 1 if approved, will fund about $235 million in infrastructure upgrades—such as new substations and steel utility poles—to improve system resilience during severe storms.  WLKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Andy Beshear announced on Monday he reallocated $9.1 million from funds originally set aside for a Medicaid study to keep the Senior Meals program running after budgeted funds ended. He added that the state will use its own money to cover the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program in November to prevent a break in benefits — a measure that is not expected to be permanent.  Quicksie 98.3
  • Elizabethtown city council approved a second reading of a gas rate increase on Monday night—after 13 years of unchanged prices—and the change will push up bills for residents in the coming months.  The News-Enterprise

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials in Elizabethtown say residents should get flu shots as last season recorded the highest flu cases in 15 years. Local clinics will soon boost vaccine availability to help protect the community.  The News-Enterprise
