COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hardin County students at Bluegrass Middle School are collecting supplies for cancer patients to be donated to UofL Health Brown Cancer Center — the drive, held in honor of Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman, runs through Nov. 14 to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  WLKY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet warns drivers to be cautious as deer become more active this fall with the rut starting at the end of October—last year saw 3,406 vehicle-deer collisions that led to six deaths and 22 serious injuries. Officials advise motorists to slow down and use headlights at dawn and dusk in areas where deer are most likely to cross.  K105

HEALTH NEWS

  • Baptist Health Hardin urged local residents to learn the signs and symptoms of breast cancer — which remains the most diagnosed cancer among women — so that both men and women can seek help early if needed.  The News-Enterprise
  • Kentucky Children's Hospital at UK got a $2.5 million grant from the Kentucky Pediatric Cancer Research Trust Fund to study new ways to treat childhood cancer, which is more common in our state. The grant will let the hospital hire researchers to work on better tests and treatments — moving ideas from the lab to patient care.  K105
