COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hardin County EMS invites residents to its annual trunk or treat event where sugary treats will be offered this fall. Families can expect a safe, festive evening—complete with costumes and games—making it a fun local tradition.  The News-Enterprise
  • This week, Hardin County Animal Shelter in Elizabethtown presents Abby, a 9-year-old Calico shorthaired cat weighing 8 pounds, and Coral, a 2-year-old black and white Pit Bull mix weighing 43 pounds, both looking for Furever homes+ the shelter also updated on its recent rabies Clinic.  Quicksie 98.3
  • Elizabethtown’s Historic State Theater will launch its annual Spooky Season movie series this Friday with Frankenweenie at 7 p.m., Haunted Mansion on Saturday, Monster House on the 17th, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken on October 18, Little Shop of Horrors on October 24, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on October 25—tickets cost $3. Today at Freeman Lake Park, the city starts its Pumpkins in the Park scavenger hunt where visitors pick up a clue sheet and return it for a goody bag and a chance to win a fall fun basket.  Quicksie 98.3

  • Local officials and chamber leaders stressed the importance of manufacturing at a Hardin County Chamber of Commerce meeting held during October Manufacturing Month+the expo showcased how area industries boost the national marketplace.  The News-Enterprise

  • High school senior Karsten Ingalls of Rineyville won the Past is Prologue Essay Contest with an 1800-word essay on the Battle of Midway and received a $10,000 prize from the American Battle Monuments Foundation—over 800 students took part in the contest.  Quicksie 98.3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky State Police are joining Operation SafeDRIVE — a federal push that began Tuesday and runs until today to check commercial drivers for safe habits. Officers will patrol highways and conduct safety inspections to ensure drivers follow federal standards and prevent truck crashes.  Quicksie 98.3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kentuckians with plans through kynect may face higher premiums when federal tax credits for the Affordable Care Act expire this December—about 100,000 people could see costs rise by around $100 per month. Insurers are planning rate increases that might force many families to cancel their coverage if lawmakers do not act soon.  WKYU-FM
  • Tails & TaTas is hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Run/Walk on Saturday with brisk mid to upper 40s morning temperatures as the event continues their fight against breast cancer.  The News-Enterprise
