CASA of the Heartland is hosting its first-ever Recruitment Summit on October 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 113 in Elizabethtown—community members will learn about the volunteer process through training details, judges' input, and current advocate experiences.
🎓 Education
A groundbreaking ceremony recently marked a $9 million expansion of the ECTC Leitchfield Campus, which will add 16,735 square feet of labs for advanced manufacturing and allied health training.
Local officials including Sen. Meredith and Rep. Heavrin praised the project—T&T Construction is building the facility to equip students with in-demand skills.
🌲 Environment
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officials asked hunters to report signs of Chronic Wasting Disease and Hemorrhagic Disease in deer and elk herds and reminded them to follow testing protocols in designated surveillance zones—over 700 reports from 99 counties have been received.
The department stressed that these measures help track the spread of these diseases as CWD remains fatal and Hemorrhagic Disease often spikes during warm, dry conditions.
🏥 Health
Experts say starting light therapy in the fall may help lessen winter depression (winter blues) as shorter daylight hours lower moods in our community.
