COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A car show fundraiser will take place Saturday in Elizabethtown + it will raise money for Warm Blessings Community Kitchen + organizers say the event will help support meal programs for those in need.  The News-Enterprise
  • Residents in Elizabethtown rallied today to save the legendary Donkey Tree—an icon noted for its lore of bringing luck or curses—and they plan further efforts to protect its history.  The News-Enterprise
  • Hardin County Animal Care and Control says the shelter is full of large dogs—40 pounds and up, and residents are urged to adopt or reclaim their pets to ease the strain. The shelter will hold its annual rabies clinic at the Fairgrounds tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Quicksie 98.3

CRIME NEWS

  • Today, Team Kentucky Stop Scams advises locals not to answer unfamiliar calls — letting them go to voicemail to avoid confirming live numbers. The group also recommends checking phone settings for spam features and contacting carriers about call blocking services.  Quicksie 98.3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hardin County Schools is seeking three community members to join its Local Planning Committee to develop a four-year District Facilities Plan. The 20-member group includes the superintendent, teachers, and parents + officials, and interested residents can apply on the Hardin County Schools website.  Quicksie 98.3

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A Fort Knox Hunt Control official said a historic amount of springtime and early summertime rain (followed by a drought) led to a sharp increase in whitetail deer deaths, and he urged the community to report any dead deer found in the area.  The News-Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reminds local residents that October is National Pedestrian Safety Month and urges drivers and pedestrians to follow key safety practices as daylight fades. Motorists should slow down, avoid distractions, and use headlights at night—while pedestrians are advised to use crosswalks and wear reflective gear.  K105

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kentucky health officials issued a statewide alert after a surge in mosquito-borne illnesses—19 West Nile virus cases, including one death, and 2 confirmed La Crosse virus cases were reported from late August to late September. Nine West Nile cases are in Jefferson County and four are in Fayette County—seven patients from Louisville and all four from Fayette County needed hospital care.  K105
