COMMUNITY NEWS

  • An Elizabethtown man won the Kentucky Sheriffs’ Boys & Girls Ranch yearly raffle on Tuesday—he has made a big donation to support the charity's work.  The News-Enterprise
  • The Hardin County Animal Shelter in Elizabethtown is seeking adoptive families for Maddie, a 10 year old brown and white Boxer weighing 80 pounds, and Ghost, a 4 year old beige and white Pittie weighing 53 pounds+ the shelter will host a rabies Clinic and welcomes visitors at 220 Peterson Drive Monday through Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m.  Quicksie 98.3

CRIME NEWS

  • Officials today provided ten tips to help locals avoid scams and protect their personal information—advice that explains ways to verify offers and report suspicious activity.  The News-Enterprise

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from Kentucky's 2nd Congressional District attended an event at Elizabethtown High School on Tuesday, where Congressman Brett Guthrie discussed service academy careers—sharing tips on the application process.  The News-Enterprise
  • Kentucky Department of Education said high school juniors will take the SAT instead of the ACT as their college exam starting this school year; the ACT protest was dismissed when its contract ended. The digital, adaptive test will be used in spring and free prep materials will help students—this change may save the state up to $350,000 a year.  WKYU-FM
  • Eighth-grade students at Bluegrass Middle School cast their ballots today—each using a green sheet in the media center—to gain a hands-on voting experience.  The News-Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Tuesday’s Hardin County Fiscal Court meeting, the court approved a seven-year lease with Flex Financial—a division of Stryker Sales LLC—for $881,739.46 to cover six power load systems, ten PowerPro XT cots, and five StairPro stair chairs along with maintenance. The court also held a public hearing on the lease and completed the first reading of an ordinance amending the county budget for EMS, road, and bridge projects, and will meet next on October 14.  Quicksie 98.3
  • Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District Four delayed the traffic shift for the U.S. 62/U.S. 31W bypass roundabout project to Monday due to rain, moving westbound vehicles outside the roundabouts while closing the Nicholas Street connector—local drivers must follow new detours to reach their destinations.  Quicksie 98.3

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Lincoln Trail District Health Department is hosting free naloxone training events today at the Goodwill Opportunity Center in Elizabethtown from 10:30 a.m.—12:30 p.m. and at Abundant Life Church in Radcliff from 2—5 p.m., offering overdose response education linked to a 27 percent decline in opioid fatalities since naloxone became available over the counter.  Quicksie 98.3
