EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Grayson Co. Healthcare Foundation awarded full scholarships to Kelzey McCubbin and Isabelle Pile, who are enrolled in the ECTC Licensed Practical Nursing program, at a ceremony held earlier this month at the Leitchfield Campus—each scholarship covers tuition, books, fees and provides clinical supplies. The awards are meant to help ease the local nursing shortage and boost opportunities for future healthcare workers. K105
- ➤ Kentucky high school students will take the SAT for state-funded college admissions starting spring 2026 — a change approved by the state Department of Education that replaces the ACT — and students will get free test preparation from Khan Academy and Bluebook. WLKY
- ➤ Elizabethtown communications students who are high school seniors or college undergraduates can apply for a $1,000 scholarship from the Kentucky Association of Government Communicators if they plan to study journalism, public affairs or digital content creation—applications must include two nonfamily references and a 500-word essay and be submitted online by October 31. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Elizabethtown City Council met Monday and approved city property taxes for 2025 along with a municipal order selling 710 and 712 East Dixie Avenue for $190,000 to Dewey and Kelly Cruze, owners of Dewster’s Ice Cream. Tim Mattingly from Congleton-Hacker said foundation work for the outdoor music venue is progressing with 60,000 cubic yards moved—more than 190,000 to go—and construction should speed up soon.
