COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Animal Care Society will host its 22nd annual Bark in the Park this Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon at Gheens Lodge at Beckley Creek where a fun run, over 40 vendors, a puppy pit and a pet costume contest will raise funds for medical care and shelter needs—organizers say the event is vital as adoptions are down and the shelter is full.  WLKY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dewster’s, a popular family-owned dessert shop in Elizabethtown, will open a second location in the south end soon — the expansion will give customers more access to its treats.  The News-Enterprise

CULTURE NEWS

  • Eddie Montgomery will headline the Harvest Festival concert Saturday in downtown Elizabethtown. The event will feature live entertainment and is expected to draw local crowds.  The News-Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Samara Heavrin of Leitchfield introduced a bill that would require health plans to pay for one hearing aid per ear and cochlear implants while raising the yearly minimum assistance to $2,500 every three years—she will file the measure when the General Assembly meets in January to ease costs for families.  K105
  • Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown has named Master Trooper Bryan Washer—15-year veteran—as its new public affairs officer, and he will share news with the public.  The News-Enterprise
  • City officials plan to use an ice cream initiative as a catalyst for development on Elizabethtown's south end—hoping it will draw more business investment—while they finalize plans and engage local stakeholders. The program will be rolled out in the coming weeks as part of the city's efforts to revitalize the area.  The News-Enterprise

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross is hosting the Quicksie Versus Wolf Blood Drive tomorrow at the Pritchard Community Center from noon until 5 p.m. Account Manager Tammy Ritchie said Type O blood is urgently needed, and donors from September 22 through October 19 will get a $10 Amazon gift card.  Quicksie 98.3
