COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kentucky’s official Honey Festival is underway in Clarkson this weekend; Friday events featured carnival rides, food booths and live music by JD Shelburn at 7:00 p.m. — today a 15-30 mile bike ride starts at 6:45 a.m. at Clarkson Elementary School with a parade and antique tractor pull to follow — and hayrides are offered on both days.  K105

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Historic State Theater will launch its 2025 Spooky Season Movie Series on Oct. 10 — it will show themed films for local moviegoers.  The News-Enterprise

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jessica Annis led the Hardin County Schools Board as they examined SEEK funding and explained how it will support education excellence in our district—board members discussed plans to use the funds to boost student programs.  The News-Enterprise

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday showed that heat and dry conditions have deepened Kentucky's drought, with only 13.28 percent of the state free of drought and parts of Calloway, Fulton, Graves and Hickman counties now in extreme conditions—weather officials warn light rainfall and warm temperatures may worsen the situation. This report signals a rapid shift from moderate to serious drought across most of the state.  K105

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky officials informed senior nutrition agencies that they will reduce funding so about 5,000 seniors are expected to go on a waitlist and 1,600 may lose access to group meals—agencies are now reviewing service priorities amid a $300 million shortfall.  WKYU-FM
  • State Representatives Nancy Tate and Josh Calloway joined a Hardin County mother whose son died when his vehicle was struck by a train to present proposals for making railroad crossings safer for vehicles — the effort aims to prevent similar tragedies.  The News-Enterprise
  • Rep. Samara Heavrin of Leitchfield presented a measure earlier this week that would require health plans to expand access to hearing aids for children. The proposal aims to help kids get better access to hearing care in Kentucky.  The News-Enterprise

HEALTH NEWS

  • Baptist Health Hardin is hosting a Monster Dash event in October to raise awareness of domestic violence—its Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner team will share information and support for survivors.  The News-Enterprise

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Bob and Patti Vasconcellos in their late 70s and early 80s have sung almost every night for 25 years at a local karaoke bar — they now perform using walkers and the crowd always cheers their show.  WKYU-FM
