CRIME NEWS

  • Derek McClure, 43, from Munfordville was charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment after a road rage incident on June 14 on Peonia Road that left a woman with serious injuries during a charity run with motorcycles and a truck—he is held on $18,000 in bonds and more charges may follow.  K105

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elizabethtown Community and Technical College President and CEO Dr. Juston Pate explained at the college’s community breakfast on Tuesday that ECTC is expanding its mission beyond the basics by launching an applied engineering degree in partnership with the University of Louisville. University of Louisville Speed School of Engineering Dean Dr. Emmanuel Collins said the program will open in the spring—offering students a deeper grasp of math and science to solve technical challenges in local plants.  Quicksie 98.3
  • State Rep. Samara Heavrin received the 2025 President’s Pathfinder Award at ECTC’s Community Breakfast — a recognition of her leadership and service in Grayson and Hardin counties. ECTC President Dr. Juston Pate presented the award to highlight Heavrin’s impact on local education and community partnerships.  K105

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • GOP Sen. Donald Douglas is urging Kentucky to fund research on the Schedule I drug ibogaine—believed to help treat PTSD and opioid addiction—with his proposal aiming to set up a research fund for clinical trials and now awaiting further review. Lawmakers and experts are watching closely as other states move forward with similar studies while safety concerns remain.  WKYU-FM
  • The Hardin County Clerk’s Office is asking residents to donate their unused wheelchairs to help mobility-impaired voters reach polling stations—officials plan to collect 10 wheelchairs by the end of the year for the 2026 election cycle. The office will pick up, clean, and repair each donation to ensure they are safe and ready for use.  Quicksie 98.3
  • The Hardin County Fiscal Court approved 2025-2026 property tax rates on Tuesday, setting a real estate tax of 10.8 cents per $100 assessed value—Judge Keith Taul noted that a four percent revenue increase and funds from the BlueOval SK Pilot Agreement helped reach the forecasted budget; the court will meet next on September 9.  Quicksie 98.3
