CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Elizabethtown police arrested Deadrick Jackson after a shots fired call at Cherry Alley parking lot off North Main Street on August 24 at around 3:30 a.m.—video footage and recovered shell casings later helped locate his gray Chevrolet Impala at Elizabethtown Target, and he faces two counts of Wanton Endangerment with a court date set for September 5. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Elizabethtown Community and Technical College announced it will offer a new applied engineering degree program for students, helping them complete foundational coursework—designed to ease their transfer to four-year institutions. The News-Enterprise
- ➤ The Kentucky Department of Education launched a new statewide campaign titled "You Belong. Attendance Matters" to stress the importance of regular school attendance, as missing school can hurt learning and connections. The campaign will appear on streaming services, billboards, and public transportation and offers resources to help families and educators address chronic absences affecting nearly 30 percent of students. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A report by the Hearst National Investigative Unit shows that Kentucky has 1,290 dams with over 300 labeled high-hazard and 97 rated unsatisfactory or poor—one dam in Grayson County near the Metro is unsatisfactory and more than 10 in local counties including Hardin are poor. The study also noted that Indiana has 1,588 dams with over 280 high-hazard and 97 in unsatisfactory or poor condition. WLKY

- ➤ Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District Four said that on Tuesday detours were put in place at the dual roundabout interchange where U.S. 62 meets the U.S. 31W Bypass in Elizabethtown to keep heavy traffic on state roads — one lane in each direction remained open on U.S. 62. - ➤ Elizabethtown City Council approved a trade during a special meeting Monday that swaps the City Hall building for the former E-Town Laundry property in a deal with 117 Properties LLC. Mayor Jeff Gregory said the move will solve space shortages—letting the city temporarily lease City Hall— as it plans to build a new government campus. Quicksie 98.3

- ➤ Kingston Bryant, an Elizabethtown baby born on Dec. 29, 2023, weighing one pound and diagnosed with chronic lung disease, left the Norton Children's NICU for the first time on Tuesday—surrounded by doctors, nurses and family who cheered his brave journey home and now prepare for his follow-up care.
