COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tamra, an 8 month old Shepherd mix weighing 33 pounds, and Pumpkin, a 4 month old kitten, are looking for Furever homes in Elizabethtown. Hardin County Animal Shelter is hosting a Dog Days of Summer special that will let people adopt dogs 5 month old or older for $25 — the shelter is open from 12 noon through 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday at 220 Peterson Drive.  Quicksie 98.3
  • Laura Nall from White Mills Days explained that the festival will feature planned events on Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16—details include a range of community activities scheduled for both days.  Quicksie 98.3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elizabethtown Independent Schools started the 2025-2026 school year with students returning Tuesday as Superintendent Paul Mullins said all systems were running properly—he added that the district focused on giving extra help and challenging work while finalizing transportation plans amid a bus driver shortage.  Quicksie 98.3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Elizabethtown City Council held a work session Monday where Public Works Director Don Hill reported that city crews paved seven miles and completed new roofs on the State Theater and police lobby while installing a grease trap and inspecting sewer and stormwater lines; he added that 12.5 miles of roadway are scheduled for completion soon—budget and cost factors drive the pace. City Parks and Rec Director Seth Breitner outlined plans for the American Legion Park project to add a pavilion and improved sidewalks, and City Events Manager Beth Pyles said the annual Heartland Parade will start at 10 a.m. on August 23 with the council set to meet again on August 18.  Quicksie 98.3
