Kentucky Fish and Wildlife will increase patrols from July 3 through 5 as part of Operation Dry Water (a nationwide boating safety initiative) to ensure boaters avoid alcohol and check safety equipment before heading out.
Boaters are urged to stay sober and follow safety guidelines for a secure weekend on the waterways.

Nearly all counties in the region are under an extreme heat warning through Thursday, with temperatures in the 90s and heat indexes up to 115 that may cause pets to suffer heat exhaustion.
Pet owners should keep animals indoors or in shaded areas and offer plenty of water.
A regional extreme heat warning is in effect with heat index values expected to top 105 in the coming days.
Health officials advise residents to limit outdoor activities+ stay cool and drink plenty of water while watching for signs like heavy sweating and muscle cramps.
