Radcliff Deputy Fire Marshal Tommy Crane urged residents to safely use fireworks this week by keeping water nearby and staying away from buildings and vehicles on flat surfaces.

He warned that sparklers reach 1,200 degrees—glass melts at 900 degrees so only adults should handle fireworks and residents should check local guidelines for allowed hours.

Unemployment in Hardin County dropped to 4.6 percent in May from 4.7 percent last month, and the state's average held at 4.4 percent as 97 counties saw lower rates compared to May last year — Washington County reached 3.7 percent while Grayson County hit 5.6 percent.
