COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the 72nd annual Crusade for Children, Elizabethtown supporters raised more than $154,000 as part of a $5.89 million effort over the weekend to help children with special needs in Kentucky and southern Indiana. Local volunteer Bobby Jack Murphy, who has seen the event grow since his childhood, noted that every gift goes directly to support the children — a practice rare among charities.  Quicksie 98.3

  • A Hardin County woman admitted she tried to smother her child with a pillow on University Drive in Radcliff Saturday night + she was charged with first‐degree strangulation and first‐degree criminal abuse of a child and held at Hardin County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.  K105

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new Kentucky law, Senate Bill 181, takes effect later this month and requires school district employees and volunteers to use only designated and traceable systems to contact students—this means no texts, personal emails, or social media. Bath County Schools teacher Sean Bailey said he is concerned that the measure may cause community educators to hesitate when engaging with students, and districts must comply by June 27.  WLKY
  • Elizabethtown’s local nonprofit is launching a summer reading program for children to help build reading skills over the break – the program aims to strengthen reading habits for life.  The News-Enterprise

  • Elizabethtown will ask the state for two extra quota retail package liquor licenses—raising the count from 13 to 15—as its recent population growth supports the change.  The News-Enterprise
