Fort Knox will host a 5k run/walk on Friday, June 12 to celebrate the Army’s 251st birthday at the base.
The event will mark a special military milestone for our community.
Freeman Lake Park hosts the 30th Annual Children's Fair today from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Ernie Williams Pavilion, in partnership with the Heart of Kentucky Association of Realtors.
HKAR realtor Jenny Geist said the free fair offers games, vendors, inflatables, and activities for children ages one to 12.
🎭 Culture
Heart of Kentucky Chorus performs 'An American Journey' today at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with $10 tickets.
The chorus will also present a dinner-and-show on June 11 at Venue on Main in Vine Grove at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. for $35.
🎓 Education
Parents stressed the importance of reading during the Hardin County Public Library Summer Reading Kickoff on Friday.
The event encouraged families to keep learning active throughout the summer break.
🌲 Environment
The U.S. Drought Monitor report shows that scattered showers last week cut Kentucky’s severe drought from 55.9 to 18.7 percent and raised no-drought areas to 22 percent.
Forecasts predict near normal to above normal rain next week (moderate drought may continue in some areas).
🏛️ Government
TARC officials report increased ridership during the I-65 closure, with some bus routes experiencing delays (riders say buses are on time on some routes while slower on others) as extra buses and detours are deployed to manage heavier traffic.
Riders are advised to plan extra travel time on busy routes.
🏥 Health
Governor Beshear signed an executive order Tuesday to add more conditions (sickle cell anemia, ALS, Crohn's disease, Parkinson's, terminal illnesses) to the Medical Cannabis Program, providing clearer access to alternative pain relief.
Green Leaf Dispensary in Elizabethtown has been serving patients since June 1.
On May 24, Hardin County EMS staff delivered a baby whose umbilical cord was wrapped around its neck.
The group (including a newly minted paramedic) received commendations and a stork lapel pin for safely completing the field delivery.
