- ➤ Kentucky Fish and Wildlife promotes Free Fishing Weekend that will take place on June 7 and 8 when anglers can fish without permits but must follow size limits and other rules. The Kids Fishing Derby at Camp Carlson Lake will be held this Saturday — registration closed Wednesday and participants will receive trophies, fishing poles, and tackle as part of the event. - ➤ Two dogs, Meadow and Hunter, are looking for Furever homes at the Hardin County Animal Shelter at 220 Peterson Drive—open Monday to Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Meadow is a 6-year-old black and white Border Collie weighing 50 pounds and Hunter is a 3-year-old red and white Beagle with bright green eyes. - ➤ Wednesday afternoon, first responders controlled heavy smoke and fire at Akebono Brake Corporation — 300 Ring Road — in Elizabethtown with no injuries reported; the Japanese owner — which will close the plant by year's end — had announced the planned closure years ago. WLKY
- ➤ On Tuesday at about 4:45 p.m., a 65-year-old Elizabethtown man—Vernon B. Aleshire Jr.—died in a fiery crash on Joe Prather Highway when his Chevy Tahoe hit a Nissan 350Z and flipped, an off-duty officer and firefighters responded while Gary D. Foreman Jr. was taken to Baptist Health Hardin as Radcliff PD leads the investigation. K105
