Community members gathered at a Touch a Truck event where car horns honked and children laughed to support a local child fighting cancer—the event celebrated the child's love for cars and brought neighbors together in Elizabethtown.

Saturday morning, many residents visited Pearl Hollow Landfill on free dump day to dispose of unwanted items—trucks and cars lined up as the site was busier than usual.

Eight Girl Scouts from Kentucky and southern Indiana earned the Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn, by completing a project that addresses local or global issues.

Maggie Elder, CEO of Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, said less than 5.5% of eligible scouts achieve the award — the project is meant to create lasting change.
