The Elizabethtown Police Department is collecting monetary donations to support families affected by the May 16 tornadoes and extend its Shop with a Cop program for children.
Every donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $2,500—funds will go directly to family resource coordinators in local schools.
🚨 Crime
A Shepherdsville man was sentenced to 36 years in prison for murdering his friend Derrick Franks in Hardin County on Tuesday — Cruz Frescas shot Franks while driving in March and then dumped his body off North Dixie Highway in Elizabethtown, and he apologized in court while claiming the shooting was an accident.
Pedro Reyes, a Hardin Co. business owner from Elizabethtown who owned Medical Plus Support LLC, was sentenced to federal prison for two years and nine months and must pay over $6 million in restitution after he was convicted of conspiring to commit healthcare fraud by billing Medicare for unnecessary durable medical equipment.
🎓 Education
Hardin County Schools is hosting a career fair for certified and classified positions on June 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the HCS Early College and Career Center at 200 University Drive—school principals may conduct on the spot interviews—while the board approved a four percent raise for all district staff during its May meeting, adding to last year's six percent increase.
🏛️ Government
Roads in Hardin, LaRue and Meade counties will be resurfaced—more than $800,000 was awarded to seven counties to improve roadways—and work is planned to begin soon.
Governor Beshear announced last week that LaRue County, along with Marion and Washington counties, completed the requirements for Recovery Ready Community certification which recognizes services in prevention, treatment and recovery support.
The counties partnered with the Kentucky Chamber and the Lincoln Trail District Health Department to help lower overdose deaths by 30.2 percent from the previous year — the governor said.
