John Hardin High School FFA students organized a donation drive for storm victims in Laurel County and other parts of Kentucky after last week's storms caused significant damage, and Agriculture Teacher Jeremy Hall said the students quickly began collecting needed items.

Donations, including non-perishable food, paper towels, wipes, baby food and pet food, are accepted at the Ag. Ed. Department (8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today) with plans to deliver them on Thursday or Friday morning (logistics pending).

Authorities warn residents after reports of scams in which callers claim to be a child injured in a car accident, impersonate Microsoft for financial extortion, or pose as FEMA during damage assessments—residents are advised to trust only official contacts and avoid sharing personal or financial information.

Western Kentucky University’s 16th annual Storm Chase course began Saturday and included Hardinsburg student Jackson Powers as one of eight meteorology students who drove across the Great Plains to forecast and document severe weather.

The program trains students in both forecasting and emergency management by having them rotate roles and share real-time updates—an approach that has taken WKU groups to 20 states over 112,013 miles.

Hardin County honors 15 students today under its 'Grow Your Own Teacher' program and expands support to high school seniors seeking teaching degrees.

In partnership with Western Kentucky University, the county will pay one-third of tuition (matched by the university) for seniors at WKU and fully cover tuition for those pursuing math or science teaching degrees.
