COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, 84 local veterans took an Honor Flight Bluegrass trip to Washington, D.C. where they visited monuments honoring service members from multiple wars—supported by a $125,000 anonymous donation that will fund future trips.  WLKY
  • Ashley Allen said the 3rd Annual Swim For Vinny Golf Scramble — a fundraiser for childhood drowning prevention — will take place on May 16 in Elizabethtown.  Quicksie 98.3

CULTURE NEWS

  • Greenspace spokesperson Matt Deneen explained that three concerts are scheduled at the Emerald Cathedral at Freeman Lake this year—more details will be shared soon.  Quicksie 98.3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will host Pathfinder Academy from June 9 to 13 for rising sixth through tenth grade students and will offer interactive classes in science, technology, cooking, and crafts. ECTC faculty will lead the sessions while Abound Credit Union holds financial literacy workshops—advanced registration is required on a first-come, first-served basis.  K105

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky State Police Post 4 is joining Operation C.A.R.E.—a crash awareness effort that will increase patrols and check for seat belt use as summer travel nears. Troopers will run the program until May 26 to help prevent traffic deaths.  K105
  • Kentucky lawmakers introduced a bill that would let Mammoth Cave National Park acquire an additional 551 acres from the Nature Conservancy—if passed, the expansion would boost protections in the Green River watershed, preserve wildlife and cultural heritage, and increase tourism; the park now covers nearly 53,000 acres across Edmonson, Barren and Hart counties.  Quicksie 98.3
  • Elizabethtown City Council met Monday to review zoning changes for Hutcherson Lane and East Memorial Drive and to deny a request for Saint John Road while approving orders for park improvements (with a $467,500 bid from Dirt Works Unlimited and a design contract for a Commerce Drive extension). Radcliff City Council met Monday and reviewed its tourism budget and honored Fort Knox BOSS Program soldiers (with next meetings set for May 27 in Elizabethtown and May 20 in Radcliff).  Quicksie 98.3
