COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jack, a 3-year-old white and brown Springer Spaniel weighing 65 pounds, and Splash, a 2-year-old tan and white female Shepherd are looking for Furever homes at the Hardin County Animal Shelter, which welcomes visitors Monday to Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The shelter will take part in the LouAdopts event on Saturday May 10th at the Kentucky Fair and Expo center — over 150 pets found homes there last year.  Quicksie 98.3

CRIME NEWS

  • A Rineyville man who shot and killed his wife after her birthday party was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter and will serve 20 years–his wife’s family called him a disgrace.  The News-Enterprise

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky Fish and Wildlife finished testing 9,204 wild deer samples during the 2024-2025 season and found no new cases of chronic wasting disease—about 4,500 of the samples came from detection zones near Ballard and Breckinridge counties.  Quicksie 98.3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Elizabethtown student Josie Smallwood from Campbellsville University was selected for a 40-day Senate internship this summer — she made her choice after weighing her options last year.  The News-Enterprise
  • Kentucky residents who live or work in one of the 13 counties approved for Individual Assistance after the April floods and storms may now apply for disaster benefits. Residents can get D-SNAP food help until May 14 and shop with their benefits until May 31, and they can also file for Disaster Unemployment Assistance if work was lost due to the disaster (call 1-855-306-8959) or visit the Hardin County office (915 North Mulberry Street in Elizabethtown).  Quicksie 98.3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kentucky Chief Medical Officer Dr. Steven Stack said measles is making a comeback because some communities are not vaccinating and misinformation is spreading, which puts unvaccinated children at risk of pneumonia and dehydration. He urged parents to talk with their primary care provider about the simple two-dose MMR vaccine (which is 97 percent effective) to keep children safe.  Quicksie 98.3
