- ➤ KDF officials said Friday that even though record flooding forced the cancellation of Thunder Over Louisville, cleanup work at Waterfront Park will finish in time for over 70 Derby Festival events scheduled in less than two weeks. Festival president Matt Gibson said city officials are in daily communication to monitor progress (backup plans will be used if needed). WLKY
- ➤ Goodwill Industries is offering vouchers to local residents recovering from the recent floods — the vouchers help cover the cost of essential items. The program aims to ease the recovery process for those affected by the disaster. The News-Enterprise
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky will be the epicenter for Brood XIV periodical cicadas this spring—scientists say the 17-year cycle insects are set to emerge in large numbers statewide. Local residents should expect increased cicada activity during the season. The News-Enterprise

- ➤ Gov. Andy Beshear said the state will soon request federal aid for flood recovery as over 70 counties declared disasters and a 66-year-old man from Carroll County became the sixth fatality—teams from several states have arrived and the application for assistance will start with 10 to 12 counties before more are added. - ➤ Beginning May 7, all Kentuckians aged 18 and older will need a Real ID or other acceptable identification to travel domestically and access federal facilities such as military bases. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet — the state agency in charge of road safety — said residents should visit a Driver Licensing Regional Office with one proof of identity, one proof of Social Security and two proofs of residency when applying for their Real ID.
