GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Andy Beshear signed House Bill 38 this week, which changes penalties for repeated protective order violations from a misdemeanor to a felony—bringing potential jail time of up to five years. Advocates say the law offers stronger protection for domestic violence survivors. WLKY
- ➤ FEMA may provide financial assistance to residents whose vehicles were damaged by severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides between February 14 and March 7 in designated disaster areas. Residents must file an insurance claim if they have a comprehensive policy and then apply with FEMA with valid registration, title and proof of not owning another usable vehicle—applicants with more than one damaged vehicle must explain the need.
