COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Area residents have many spring cleaning opportunities this season. Hardin County accepted waste tires yesterday, is accepting them today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will accept them on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the old Springfield Road landfill at 3870 Rucker Road—Grayson County will offer tire drop-offs on April 3 to 5, Meade County will do so on April 10 to 12, and Elizabethtown will run an E-Scrap Recycling event on May 10 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. while starting a clean-up event from March 31 to April 30 and Radcliff will hold collections throughout April. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear signed HB 38 on March 27th to increase penalties for those who repeatedly break emergency protective orders by making a third violation within five years a felony instead of a misdemeanor + the law is expected to deter repeat domestic violence in our community. - ➤ Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced on Thursday at the Goodwill Opportunity Center that 77 organizations will receive nearly $20 million in grants to support drug prevention, treatment and recovery programs. The grants, awarded by the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Commission, follow over $75 million in funding since 2021 to help curb substance abuse. WLKY
- ➤ The city is working on a large stormwater drainage project along College Street that has required traffic to be rerouted to ease flooding problems. The News-Enterprise
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Norton Children's Hospital planted pinwheels in front of the Center for Safe and Healthy Kids on Market Street for Child Abuse Awareness Month because Kentucky has the fourth-highest child abuse rate. Child abuse pediatrician Melissa Curie said the effort reminds everyone that children deserve respect and kind treatment. WLKY
