EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Kentucky State Police is hosting its second-annual youth academy for teens aged 16 and 17 at Trooper Island Camp on Dale Hollow Lake from July 21 through 25—youth will join team-building exercises and forensic demonstrations to learn about law enforcement careers. Quicksie 98.3
- ➤ Kentucky state officials joined students and staff at Creekside Elementary School Monday to launch the first Ag Education Week that runs through March 21 — a program that uses the Agstream initiative to teach about Kentucky agriculture. Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman said the event builds on talks with families and links classroom learning with the local farming community — a new step for the school. Quicksie 98.3
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Elizabethtown City Council approved a $47M bond to pay for a new music venue—this bond will fund the project while the sports park nears the end of its bond funding period. The News-Enterprise
- ➤ The governor is reviewing Senate Bill 89, a controversial measure that would limit the state’s power to protect many rivers and streams if signed, easing rules for coal mining, construction and farming. Environmental advocates warn the change may put drinking water for over 1 million people at risk. WLKY
- ➤ The Elizabethtown City Council met Monday and held a first reading on an ordinance approving a bond for the Buffalo Lake outdoor music venue that will not exceed $47 million over 30 years—City Attorney Ken Howard confirmed no extra taxes will be added. The council also held a first reading on an ordinance for new sewer rates with gradual increases in residential bills and will meet again on March 24. Quicksie 98.3
