EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hardin County Schools broke ground Thursday on a new Pre-K through fifth grade building costing over $50 million and set to open in August (2028). The school, built on the same parcel as Hardin Middle and High Schools, will emphasize outdoor learning to support planned growth.  WLKY
  • The Hardin County Education Association hosts Read Across America at Central Hardin High School cafeteria Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for locals with reading activities, food trucks, door prizes, and book giveaways including water bottles from Hardin County Water District No. 2. Teacher Lawson Barger promotes lifelong reading.  Quicksie 98.3
  • Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will honor eight alumni and two retired employees, including two residents from Grayson County, at its Profiles of Excellence celebration; the event is set for 6-8 p.m. March 17 at the ECTC Student Center (RSVP by March 10).  K105

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Feb. 25, the Senate Health Services Committee approved SB 137 (a bill sponsored by Sen. Stephen Meredith) designed to ease residency requirements for international doctors practicing in rural areas amid a severe doctor shortage. The bill now heads to the full Senate for a vote.  K105

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross will host the Quicksie Versus Wolf Blood Drive from noon to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 5 at the Pritchard Community Center. Donors can support efforts for Type O blood shortages and receive a $15 Amazon gift card (plus free A1C testing).  Quicksie 98.3
