COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Twenty Norton Commons businesses are offering special deals at the annual For the Love of Local event this Saturday + organizer Shelly Dooley said the event aims to boost post-holiday shopping while bringing the community together.  WLKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hardin County Schools remains on NTI today as snow and ice conditions keep secondary roads unsafe for student travel. District officials (supported by crews who used over 400 tons of salt) will decide later this week if in-class learning can resume.  WLKY
  • A report from the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education shows 60% (six out of 10) of undergrad students graduate debt-free compared to 40% in 2019-2020. Community and technical college graduates finish at 74% while average loan balances have decreased for public university borrowers.  Quicksie 98.3
  • Leftover snow and ice slowed school bus routes, with 10 buses each day getting stuck on local side streets while crews plowed more miles than ever before. JCPS provided a list (260 roads) to the city so families know students reached school safely.  WLKY

  • Nearly 475 Special Olympics athletes on 40 teams will compete as three Hardin teams play in the Special Olympics Kentucky Region 3 Basketball Tournament at the Bluegrass Sportsplex in Elizabethtown this weekend + the two-day event offers community fans a chance to watch local talent in action.  The News-Enterprise
