CRIME NEWS

  • Kentucky Fish & Wildlife is wrapping up a 10-month investigation called Operation River Raid into illegal catfish harvesting from public waterways across the state, with officials planning over 700 pending criminal charges.  Quicksie 98.3

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Experts advise residents to protect homes and vehicles as a winter storm will arrive this weekend. They recommend wrapping pipes (if exposed), weather-stripping doors and checking windshield fluid, oil and coolant levels while local auto shops offer free winter checks to keep cars running safely.  WLKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Travelers at Kentucky airports who lack REAL ID can pay a $45 fee for TSA ConfirmID starting Feb. 1 to verify their identity before boarding. The process takes 10 to 15 minutes — it may take 30 minutes at busy checkpoints — and provides a 10-day clearance for travel.  K105
  • Ft. Knox Garrison Commander Col. Dave Holstead and FMWR Marketing Manager Nick Knight discussed weather calls, CYS sports for military children and civilians, and plans for the Big Game viewing party on post on Jan. 22.  Quicksie 98.3
  • City and county crews are ready for the winter storm today, having met to plan and stock 1,200 tons of salt with more ordered. They will treat 136 city roadway miles plus 568 county miles once snowfall reaches two inches, urging residents to stay home.  WLKY
  • State highway crews are preparing for a weekend winter storm by pre-treating roads as Governor Beshear said 1,500 state-owned + contracted snowplows, 311,000 tons of salt and over 1 million gallons of brine will be deployed from Saturday afternoon through Sunday, and drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel.  WLKY
